The award goes back to 1967 and interestingly no pedal steel player has ever won.

It's an absolute crime that Paul hasn't won this award, in fact, he should have won it multiple times. Paul's prolific place in recording history alone should make him a "lead pipe cinch" not to mention his absolute mastery of the worlds most complex instrument! Hopefully this is his year!!

Buddy was nominated once, in 1979, and for some reason Charlie Daniels won.

Lloyd has been nominated twice, 1973 & 1974, and lost to Charlie McCoy one year and Don Rich the next.

Paul has been nominated 18 times and they still haven't let him have one.

Does the list of Nominees ever change ? what do they judge from each of their contributions for each year? I guess it's harder for a Steeler to win,being drowned out so much..

Paul is not drowned out on the majority of records you hear him on.
I think nominees are picked by the majority of hits they play on.

When, with all the pickers in Nashville, they chose the same musician 4, 5, 6 years in a row, you have to seriously question the process. When Paul Franklin is nominated 18 times and has never won, well then we're on the outer reaches of ridiculousness.

Jimbeaux is correct: If you hear Paul on a recording it's because he was not drowned out. 's OK, Theresa, we know what you meant.
