NTSGA Awards Smiley Roberts "Legends Award"

Smiley who will be on stage at their annual Jam tonight at 10pm was given the award today..Smiley is on cloud nine and I'm sure will be there for quite a while..When you think of all the names already who have recieved this award it's the whos who of the instrument..The really good thing also it's voted on and presented by his peers..Congrats Smiles..I had a great time in St. Louis with Smiles and was thrilled he asked me to sing on his set.. George Edwards who spent years as Kitty Wells steeler also recieved the award along with Smiley..Congrats to him too.

Talked to Smiley today on the phone - Told him I thought he looked like Charlie Daniels...He said "Yeah, Charlie Daniels after taxes!"

No one deserves this award more than Smiley. I have been a fan since the first time I heard him in the late 60's or early 70's with the Compton Brothers then with Tommy Overstreet. I'm also proud to say that he is a friend. Smiley is a true lover of steel guitar and country music. Congratulations Smiley, about time you got the recognition so long over due.

Danny Spinks of the NTSGA took this picture of Gib Sun handing Smiley Roberts the NTSGA Legends Award for 2011, being presented to Smiley by Kathy Jones, wife of NTSGA President Jan Jones.

A well deserved award - Congrats Smiley!

George Edwards was also a recipeant of the Legends Award this year! Congrats George!
