Not a 66

This banjo is definitely not a 66. It would have bowtie inlays and a one piece flange. Probably an early 70's.

I play one very similar, paid $ 1000. on eBay -early '70's most likely, most Bluegrass "experts" shun the multi-ply rim but I think it's a good stage/touring piece.

Thanks for the note Dave, I appreciate it.
I guess I need to re-consider the asking price.
Aren't the new RB250 mastertone's are over 2K? are those the multiply that you mention? Just curious.

Thanks

Gibson list prices are thru the roof now...I think they use 3 ply rims now like they did pre-war but I am not sure of that. I'd say $ 1500 would be a fair price for that one, Regards, Dave

Tony...A simple way to determine rim type: multi ply rims were normally painted flat black by the factory (to disguise that fact I imagine), three ply rims stained. Many players with banjos from that period would simply replace the existing rim, available from vendors who offer nice repro units such as "Stewart Macdonald" and "First Quality".

banjo

These banjos also have pot metal tonerings and two piece flanges. Not the best era for Gibson.

I sold my '76 for $1,600 (4 years ago) to give you an idea for a price range. No way a stock 70's RB-250 will fetch over $2k and in this market you may be looking at less than $1,600.

This era RB-250 gets a bad wrap but overall they sound just fine.

Best of luck
