What a shame that the Nashville e9th style of Steel playing virtually took Bobby White's style of playing off the Market.

The first time I met Bob White was In 1953,He and PeeWee Whitewing were the steel players for Hank Thompson Brazos Valley Boys, and I watched these two young men play( I"m guessing that Peewee was around 19 or 20,,and Bob was about 21 or 22)It just amazed me as to how talented they were,I have always loved the "Hank Thompson Western Swing Sound" and to me,,Bob and PeeWee did It the best....

After White left Thompson he owned a supper club in downtown Oklahoma City, the "Someplace Else Club".

He had a jazz trio house band and he kept that Gibson with all those floor pedals on the stage where he would play an occasional set between his club management duties.

He "fronted", so he played standing with one foot on the volume pedal and the other working the pedals. His pedal focus was on chords and his playing with the combo was awsome. I can only imagine what he might have played if he had been "sitting"!

Bill,

In 1995, Bob and Pee Wee performed at a steel show in New Orleans....You should have been there because it was awesome..They were playing all of the harmony lines from the brazos valley days !!

Murnel, you just jogged my memory. I think that's on one of those Cajun Classic videos I have. Is that where it was? I need to dig that out and watch it again.

Give me some time. We've got some medical problems with the wife to work thru. I will try to check this out and be sure it's right. The Cajun Classic videos were a compilation of different performers on the show and it wouldn't be more than a half dozen songs maybe that the PeeWee and Bob did, but it was good stuff. Go ahead and PM me your contact information and I'll see what I can do. I have 1993, 94, and then two vhs tapes for 1995.
