Jack, I am very skeptical just as you are too  I am sure we are getting very close to this kind of technology but I don't think it will be announced on "Youtube"
The wrench that was scanned then printed out on the "3D" printer are not exactly the same, the printer obviously interpreted the hanging hole on the wrench as a ring/loop similar to a key chain ring.
I am a person who believes in technology and I love reading about it and seeing videos on the subject but I don't think we are quite there for that technology yet Just my 3 cents.

It was part of a National Geographic spot. The scanning and printing were actually two different capabilities. The onscreen 3d wrench was already in the system and was misrepresented as the original wrench brought in. 3D printing is real.

That video seems to explain quite a bit thanks. It just shows to go you that no seemingly beyond reproach TV medium is 100% honest. I would have thought that Nat. Geo. was above such deceptive broadcasting practices, but and that is a very big but if Nat. Geo. did film, produce and air that episode that they have dropped way down in my list of honest broadcasting mediums.
The one last thought I'll leave you with is unless I misread everyones replies no one has said that they actually seen this segment one Nat. Geo. TV or any other type of broadcast. If they have please step forward and sound off for us like I said I know we have to be either at the point of capable technology or at least close to where this can be done. In theory it seems and looks easy but in practical use I'll bet it's a complicated process to pull this off Now just my 4 cents

Like I say, I think this is space age tech for astronauts, and it aint cheap in the 21st century, but it most likely is real. They've been working on holodeck star trek stuff too, since we first saw Capt. Kirk say, "Beam me up, Scotty, no intelligent life here!" 
Just the fact that they can "print" a real working tool with complicated moving gears from a computer is kinda amazing!  I suppose there are a few wrenches out there "lost in space" by now. That keyring makes it easier to attach to your spacesuit with those big goofy gloves on.
