Early Weissenborn

Post by George Noe »

I thought some of you might like to see an early Weissenborn that I have under repair. When HW turned from violin making to steel guitars, his first steels were made using his stock of violin wood, namely maple and spruce. This one is from 1914-1915 era before he began using his picture label. All the braces and kerfing is Douglas fir, no doubt built under Chris Knutsen's tutelage. Note also the Knutsen bridge. This guitar had been dropped on its end pin, shattering the Douglas fir tail block.

Oh. My. Goodness.

What a wonderful-looking guitar! Even if it was made under Chris J. Knutsen's tutelage, the braces don't reflect it - they're so clean!

Thanks George. Keep us up to date on the progress with that very interesting guitar.

What a find!
When it's back together, will it get played at all?
Surely whoever has it will be too busy just staring at the back!
