Randall Steelman 500

Post by Lee Gillespie »

I have a Randall Steelman 500 that I've had since new. I used it on the band stand about 5 times but each time I turned it off it emitted a loud POP. I put it in my studio used my old amp since. Any time I used it in the studio I would unplug the speaker plug to eliminate the Loud POP on the speaker.
I am wanting to buy a lighter amp is the reason for selling it. (dad burn thing is too heavy for me to carry. Any suggestions to why the loud POP would be appreciated. Thanks Lee

I've seen them go for between 350 and 450.00

Great amps! What speaker do you have in yours?

I'm guessing that the 'pop' you have been hearing would require some very minor maintenance from a qualified tech to eliminate.

lee, I'd say you are at 450.00 then (because of the speaker)

One sold here back in Nov. for 450 with the JBL.

One thought would be to sell the speaker separate, you can probably get 200-250 for it alone and then sell the amp for 300.00

That would net you 500.00 which would be the high end for a steelman (in my experience)

They are cool amps to be sure!

I have a Randall 2X12 150 watt amp that our rhythm player uses. I traded a vox vt60 that I got for 40.00 (it needed a 1.20 in parts) on Craigslist with some two rock speakers in it (the speakers alone were worth more than the amp)...

It sounds as good as my sf twin and is a lot lighter too!

I think breaking up the speaker and amp will also make shipping less expensive so, that won't be a breaking point in the sale.

I'll be up in Laramie this summer to see my nephew play ball, if you still have it then, I may pick it up!

I've owned a Sho Bud amp and a Barcus Berry amp... both solid state amps, and they both popped like that. I just assumed all solid state amps did that... nothing to worry about.
