Do any of you Forumites happen to have access to 1/2 dozen or so, 'GOLDEN GATE Thumbpicks? These come in LARGE size only and are Multi-Colored, designated as PK13X. They are a soft blended color scheme and supposedly are ideal for Blue Grass players.
Let me know ASAP. I've waited for 4.5 weeks for an eastcoast music store to tell me just today that they are back ordered. The only local store had only the white Mother of Toilet Seat design. |

| I have some plain cream (sort of white) color and some pearloid color Golden Gate's and both sound the same to me. |

Jack....I drove clear across town yesterday after telephoning more than two dozen music stores in town and across this great land...... I was met with indifference until finally, one local store assured me he had the item I wanted and stated he had a dozen or more. Upon arrival, he had nothing but those flimsy
Mother of Toilet Seat picks. How 'bout that?

I like the look of the multi-colored ones. (Maybe the 60s really aren't over.  )
How do the compare to the blue Herco thumbpicks?

FINALLY.......I've managed to come up with three(3) of those great fitting, beautiful, multicolored Golden Gate Thumb picks that I've been searching for since the first part of March.
Messages left on telephone answering machines failed to gain any acknowledgement or response; Other stores most likely didn't figure the low cost of these picks justified any sort of personal customer service; and/or whatever.
A bluegrass Forumite from the upper mid-west introduced a friend of mine to these great picks while in Dallas. Having just slipped one onto my thumb I can see why they are such a rave to have. The curve of the pick, over the top of the nail, fits so nicely and surely would not be an inducement for 'hang-nails' on the thumb.
Personally, I don't routinely hang out with either drummers or banjer pluckers however, when I telephoned Marvs' Music at 1-360-785-4932 (1134 S.E. 1st Street, Winlock, Washington) I encountered a genuinely friendly and sincere person who immediately addressed my dilema, personally verified he had some in stock and assured me he could get them to me in just three days. After the five week wait for the North Carolina store to get my picks to me; and, the California store that never even responded to my telephone order......this kind of service was fabulous!
Now, Marv is a BANJO plucker, but there are exceptions to everything. He's one Banjo guy I feel certain that I could get to like. One nice guy; one that keeps his word.

| My only problem with dark colored picks is that I find them difficult to spot should you happen to drop one in a dimly lighted room. (I usually find mine with my foot!) |

Actually, I don't think color is an issue, but the different models they make have different "tongues" on them and the does affect the way they play. I bought some a few years ago at a local music store (OK, not really local...across the bay) and really like one of the styles, but not the others. I have been unable to tell which one I have and match them on the internet. That means I need to drive to get mine. Mine is the kind of yellow one, but they make other kind of yellow ones that are different than mine. Good luck. If you have a store within reasonable driving distance, I would go see what they have. I need to see the pick and try it on before I want to buy it.
