Dave Van Allen wrote:A pretty, slender, young, blonde pedal steeler with a Sho~Bud and a Fender amp... what's not to like?
Dave, That was the exact same thought I had when I visited her website...all my primordial lusts in one place...
Not really my bag musically, but she has a great style and sound nonetheless... bob

"Like it or not, the public is more attracted to the pure sound of our instrument than to the hot licks of its virtuoso show-offs. Tone is what producers are after. I hear that in Maggie's online sound clips."

You nailed it bOb

Just got back from the road. got to meet and hear Maggie in Austin. She has real fine technique and great tone. She's very capable of playing fancier licks than what you hear on her CD. She was a real down to earth person to meet as well.

Just listened to Maggie's CD on the drive home from rehearsal.
I really like it. I mean, I really like it... a lot! The influence of John and Joey from Calexico is quite apparent, but Maggie has written some very nice tunes and songs in that vein, without mimicry. There's even a 1 minute experimental track, a la Heather Leigh Murray.
Mid- to slow- tempo pieces, numerous 3/4 - time cuts, dusty, Southwestern-style, sort of nostalgic melodies at times....all in all, a very fine release. Maggie eschews pyrotechnics and concentrates on atmosphere and melody. The vocalists acquit themselves very nicely, too.
Certainly looking forward to more from Ms. Bjorklund.

I like it. I found her a bit ago on the No Depression web site. Here she is playing with Cobirds Unite. At the end of this video there are a couple of others.

She played with Cobirds Unite here on Lopez Island this afternoon. I was impressed by the band and by her in particular. Her playing is simple and tasteful and devoid of all the standard licks we've all been hearing and playing forever. It was refreshing to see a pedal steel being used so effectively in a very atypical style of music. I enjoyed it a lot.
