Video: Jim Cohen/Beats Walkin' w/Alex DePue

Post by Jim Cohen »

Here is some homemade footage from our gig this past Saturday night, with fiddler extraordinaire, Alex DePue sitting in. For those who don't know, Alex is a national fiddle champion, comes from a family of 4 world-class fiddling brothers (2 of whom are in the Philadelphia Orchestra), and Alex has been touring for the past 2 years in the band of rock guitarist Steve Vai. Alex can play anything from Bach to Rock, at world-class level. We first met on stage at one of the steel shows (I think at the Chattanooga Show, or was it LT Zinn's show in Michigan?) We were really thrilled to have Alex sitting in with us this past weekend. The video isn't great but you'll get the general idea and vibe:

... and just for grins, here's Alex breaking the Guinness Book of World Records for the fastest performance of The Flight of the Bumblebee: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qV7IKBK45gM

Thanks, guys. Marcel, it is my Franklin D-10, straight into the Peavey 112, with just reverb.

Great playing on the videos, Jimbeaux!

I was at the show in GR years back where Alex sat in with Herby Wallace on a borrowed fiddle (his had been stolen!), playing into a mic, and totally blew everyone away. It's on DVD.
