Paloma Stone Ceramic Tone Bars now with marble color!

Now accepting orders for a new series of Paloma Stone ceramic tone bars... in marble color! If you'll be at the TSGA Jam, I'll have some with me... if not, place your orders now... I'll be making them on a first come, first served basis when I return from Dallas. Featuring that same super-hard, super-slick, super-quiet playing surface, these new bars set a new standard for the discriminating player! Lighter than steel, Paloma bars deliver excellent sustain, tone, and tactile feel.

Stock sizes available in 24, 27, and 32 mm diameters...
and 75, 80, 85, and 90 mm lengths (custom lengths Plus $10)
Note that each tone bar has a carved indent in the end for your thumb to facilitate slants and grip.
And each bar features a slight taper on the end to avoid catching strings!

Please note that these bars are made from raw, wet clay... I do not use any molds, my only power machine is my pottery wheel, and they are glazed with my own glaze formulas. I do not buy solid rod stock and then computer-machine it to the appropriate length and bull nose profile. I make these from scratch. These tone bars take time and lots of hands-on effort to make them. And the process requires that they get fired twice in my kiln... the second time to over 2450 degrees! Please allow up to 21 days! I have a 9% loss rate with high-fire ceramics, and I may need to make your bar twice, or three times if there are any flaws detected!

Nice looking bar at a very good price. I should have learned more during the two weeks back in the 70ies when they tried to teach me metric. I get kind of lost on the mm stuff.

the steel bars that we commonly use are usually 7/8 inch. Do you ahve any that are closer to this size?
Probably a 21 or 22 mm?

Hi Keith,

In the past year, I have sold over 280, 24 mm bars just to members of this forum without a complaint or returned bar. And another 78, 26 mm bars to forum members as well. It seems that players like to use a variety of bars sizes. Paul Franklin has all four of my diameter sizes...

I have made a smaller bar (21 mm), but find that it is difficult to keep that little sucker straight through the whole process... and when players have compared my smaller bar to the 24 mm size, they have always chosen the 24 mm.

7/8 inch is .875 in.
24 mm is .945 in.
The difference is .070 inches. Seven hundredths of an inch! And with high-fire ceramics, there is always a slight variation in size.

Player's remarks have enjoyed the slightly larger size being easier to hold in the hand, yet lighter in weight than a steel bar.

I don't list a 21 mm bar on my web site... but I make them if you want one.

I believe my intent has been missunderstood. It is not that I can't convert or caluclate, it's why should I have to. In the USA we use pounds, gallons, and inches as our standard forms of mesurement. I realize that a large part of the world uses the metric system. If I were reading a post from Canada or England I would expect it to be in metric. That is not the case here. The post came from the USA. Maybe the poster has a large part of his business coming from outside the USA. He can post in mm, inches, or may make up his own measurements if he wants to. It is his product,(mesurement in inches is on his web site) it is a very fine product that he goes to great pains to make sure it is perfect for our use, and backs it up with a full refund. But, I live in the United States and the USA still uses the standard system. There was a movement for us to switch back in the seventies, but the USA did not, so I have not. Maybe we are behind the times, but, these are the times I live in. This is why I have read the fourm for many many years but had never joined or made many comments. My intent was simply to point out a great tone bar, not draw the discussion away from the product.

The Steel Guitar Forum has over 10,000 members worldwide, I believe, and the metric system has been recognized as the standard of measurement for world commerce. When I first developed my web site, I posted all dimensions in millimeters and inches.

Since joining the Forum, I have sold a significant number of bars and slides out of this country. Being able to properly communicate a product's specifications to the customer in this day of "world marketing" is very important to any business wishing to "compete". These days, I seem to automatically express my specs in millimeters and don't seem to have much of a problem being understood by folks in the US.

I very much appreciate your kind words regarding Paloma Stone Slides and I am sure that others reading your entries understood your intent as well. I appreciated the humor and suggested assistance in the "off topic comments" made by others and hope that you see the positive there as well.

This forum has a limitless supply of knowledge available through its membership and always welcomes input form non-members as well. I am sure there are many who will echo this sentiment. I encourage you to join and continue to take part in dialog as I am sure you have valuable knowledge to share with others. We are all empowered and enlightened by each other.

I agree with you. Metric is used for world commerce and there are members from around the world here. This is why I said that you could advertise your product in any manner you felt fit your business best and also pointed out that you had inches on your web site. You have done a great job of listing your bars and explaining length to everyone world wide. I made a poor attempt at humor with my comment "that I should have learned more about metric". I guess I got a little touchy about being pointed to a conversion web site by a member that was just tring to help. I am sorry.

Folks these bars are light and smooth and have great tone to boot. I not only bought One!! I got four of them.

Sorry for the delay. When I returned home from the TSGA Jamboree I went straight to bed with the Swine Flu! I finally was able to get out of bed about five days ago. What a fiasco! I have returned to work in my pottery studio and am doing my best to get all the orders I took in Dallas as well as your's processed as fast as I can. There are about 40 players who are in the same boat as you... they are waiting! I look to be able to start shipping tone bars the beginning of next week.
