Jagwire Strings ( where are they ? )
Moderator: Shoshanah Marohn
I've been selling Jagwires for about 10 years, Bill. I can't imagine that you've been playing the same set of strings since "when he was first starting out".
By the way, I expect to have some Jagwires in stock sometime next week.

Jagwire was the created as part of the great GHS-Squire-CBS-Bigsby-Silvertone-Gretsch-Exxon merger in 1984.
The name had something to do with military justice.

It certainly hasn't been 10 years. I did keep the package. It was an E9th Hybrid Beta set with an .012 3rd string. I was supposed to provide comments to the Jagwire Web Page (sorry Danny...); maybe this testimonial will help. Maybe Danny will know when he sent these Beta sets out.
I found a couple of Jagwire Russ Hicks E9th sets in my pack seat, so I must have thought enough of Jagwire to buy some more sets (I think from you and the Forum). These sets are really close in wire gauges to the Lashley Extra Lively that I usually played and I like Russ's playing so that probably explains why I bought them. Obviously, I haven't had the need or energy to change the Beta set.
I know the magic sound of a new set of strings, but I'm just incredibly lazy when it comes to changing strings, and these really do still sound great when I do go play. I'm amazed that one hasn't broken yet.

The story I heard was a couple guys here in Ky bought a string winding machine and started making these..The name came from a Jaguar car that they bought and fixed up for sale to finance the company's start..Lets just say they made pretty strange business partners , so the company was sold.

Jagwire Strings
When I read the posts regarding how the Jagwire String company got started, I had to chuckle.
Actually, the Jagwire String Company was a joint effort between Jaguar and Rolls Royce back in the 60's, and then in the mid 70's, the company was purchased by Fisher Body (a division of General Motors in Detroit)Ironically, all of the string winding machinery was designed and built by Mercedes Benz in Germany, with General Motors providing the financial backing. General Motors hired me as Director of Operations, and later, I was promoted to President of the Jagwire String Company. Approximately eight months ago, Jagwire was purchased via stock options by The Boeing Company, who is a major American aerospace and defense corporation. Unfortunately, production priorities were still being concentrated on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, whose production has been delayed six times since 2008, and hence, part of the cause of the recent long delays in producing Jagwire Strings. Having extensive knowledge of operations and surviving several corporate buy outs, I was fortunate enough to keep my position as President of the Jagwire Strings Company after the buy out, or perhaps I should say, take over of the company. Owning the company is one thing, however, managing it is a whole other story, as is the case with just about all corporations.

Bill Stroud. We've got a ton of orders here to fill for sure, but I know that you are also on the list. In fact, Regina was going to call you today to make sure she has your correct shipping address.
We're really trying our best here to try to get caught up, and it's a huge task to put it mildly, but as long as nothing else goes wrong in the process of things now, we hope to get back on track soon with everything again.

Thanks for clearing up the history, Danny.
I'm surprised you didn't mention Richard Simmons' involvement in the early days.
I've heard he is the "S" in the company name.
