How many did Ray and Buddy do on Step One Records?
Can someone list all of them?
I'm not sure if I have them all.

I bet they're still listed on BuddyEmmons.com.
I have them all, I think, so I'll watch this thread, although I'm sure someone else will jump in.
Great records! A wealth of great music, and it's arranged and performed to the highest standards. Now the Big Guy's packed it in, I'm really grateful he went to all the trouble he did to complete the project.
If anyone doesn't have them, they should correct that omission as soon as possible!

I think I have 'em all too, some on LP record and some on CD. I remember when I used to go to Scotty's and the first place I'd visit was the Step One Booth to get some of the best music ever recorded, I was really saddened when the stopped that label and the "Swing Shift Band"......JH in Va.

The best Pennington album is the one he did for Monument: "Ray Pennington Sings For The Other Woman".
He also did some great western swing/rockabilly stuff in the 1950s before he ever went to Nashville and a few of those songs can be heard at the above link.

| Ray used to play in Cincinnati, Ohio. I remember, in the mid 60's he was a disc jockey at a couple of country stations. I met some of the musicians he played with back then and earlier in his career. He used to call himself Ray Starr in the late fifties. He said when he left Cincinnati he was going to Nashville and make it big. Who knew he would end up running a record label!!! |

I think it's these seven albums; they're all I have from that series, and here's a 'capture' from the web-site that seems to confirm it.
As I suggested earlier, you could have looked there yourself.

Did you happen to look at the link in my post where 8 (eight) Pennington/Emmons LPs are named outright????
With track listings.
With release numbers.
One of the 8, "We're Steel Swingin' is attributed to the Flying Fish label. It appears to be a reissue of one of the original 7 on Step One.
And I don't recall any other than those eight. |

In 2008 I was able to find several through Amazon, including "It's All In The Swing", considered hard to find in the general market, new sealed... for $14.99
Try Amazon now, they have thousands of CD vendors. Good Luck! |

As a point of fact, We're Steel Swinging, on the Flying Fish label was released in 1976. The Step One version, Swinging and Other Things was released on that label in 1988.
Roger nailed it, 7 lp's on the Step One label.
