Peavey Battery-less mods at the Dallas Show
I was not planning on doing any work at show this year. It looks like I caved in at last! I will be sharing a booth with Bobby Bowman on Friday and Saturday. I will try to do 4 hours per day, so I can spend some time with my new wife and friends! I will be able to do battery-less mods for:
Profex 1
Profex 2
Bassfex
Transtubefex
Tubefex
Transfex Pro amps
Session 2000 amp
Also Burr Brown audio upgrade for Profex 2 and Bassfex will be available.
If there is a lot of battery acid damage or unit is not working, I may not be able to work on it there. I will do what I can to get them up and going at the booth.
I will bring a cache card and a Peavey Midi-filer so I can save and re-load settings. I will have settings to load for those who have lost theirs.

Hey guys if you have one of these Pro Fex's have Ken Fox put in the Burr Brown for you. I had him do mine and it will never need to be replaced as there is no Battery any more to have to worry about eating the inside up and damaging it.

My email server is down! So here is the reply:
Dean, it is 35.00 for the battery-less mod at the show. For 80.00 I do both the battery-less mod and the Burr Brown audio chips.
I can supply the chips only at:
20.00 for the battery-less memory
30.00 for the Burr Brown chips(4 total)
Shipping is 4.00, via Priority Mail.
If PayPal for payment, add 3 percent to cover the fees.

Sounds great. I will see all of you there. I will get a new order in place by the show so I have plenty of chips in stock.
The more of you that can let me know you are coming the better. That will help me gauge how much to get ready for the show.
I am not sure the hours I will be at the booth yet. I am thinking 12-4:00 PM would be good???

Got you on my list, Sonny. Thanks all for letting me know you will be there and need service.
I will also do the output mods for Profex 2 and Bassfex while there. Increases output from 1 volt RMS to 2 volts RMS. Great for power amp input and straight power amp usage!
[This message was edited by Ken Fox on 24 January 2006 at 04:57 PM.]

Thanks, Steve. I have you on the list!
I have been asked about doing Brad Sarno kits for the show. I will not be doing that at the show. Here is a copy of a post I put in the electronics section about that:
"Brad and I talking now about what is need to assemble the kits and install them.
His help is greatly appreciated. He has done a great job on the website he created for these amps. Take a look here:
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebradsarno/session_400page.html
Looks like I will have a plan in a few days. I am not sure I want to offer the kits, as the amount of tech support on the phone time concerns me! Just selling the battery-less chips for user installation has taken a lot of time off my schedule due to phone support.
Right now I plan only to install the kits and also replace 7 power supply filters in in the preamp section, these are aged in these amps and need to be serviced with the power supply filters. It would take an experienced tech 1.5 to 2 hours to do this (inluding unpacking, install, clean pots, clean speaker jacks, bench test with sine wave generator/test load/O-Scope).
There will be around 24 or more components to replace. This will require removal of all knobs/nuts and then removing the circuits boards out of the amp."

Got a real scare today! I went to order Burr Brown audio chips for the show and ever distributor for Texas Instruments was out until mid April!
Ouch! I did a lot of research and found 5000 in China. I really did not want to import them.
I just located a parts house, not a distribitor with 5000 in Florida. I got 200 ordered and on the way. It takes 4 per unit for the upgrade. That will cover 50 Profex 2 or Bassfex units!

The Burr Brown chips are shipped! For those of you who only got the battery mod at the last show or had it installed by me at my home, I can install the Burr Brown upgrade for 45.00 for you!
The response has been great so far. Looks like I will be a busy camper there at the show!
I will be working 12-4 only Friday and Saturday. Come on down. I should be able to do the units while you wait.
I can re-load your settings or put in new ones. I plan to bring 2 cache cards and a Peavey midi-filer to do the re-loads. That should cover it pretty well.
I will also have a very small 3 input mixer with headphone jack for testing. I will bring a DR-5 sequencer to act as an instrument to the Profex, etc!

Looks like I will be busy at Dallas! Thanks for all the response.
Again, I will be at Bobby Bowman's table in the main ballroom, 12-4 on Friday and Saturday.
Work limited to mods only and general battery leakage clean-up.
