The recording on that song was the orginal cut. I beleive the steel player was Buddy Emmons, but could have been Jimmy Day.

I just looked at the You Tube again, and the caption says, RAY PRICE with BUDDY EMMONS. It is amazing that Buddy and Jimmy could sound like one another on some of those recordings. The pictures were from a 2008 preformance, that does have Jim Loessberg playing steel next to Ray Price.

Did some research for this song from YouTube, and it mentions that it was from the Night Life album, so I went looking to find who played on this album. This is a listing of all the personnel on the album, and it shows both Jimmy Day and Buddy Emmons on the listing. I guess it comes down to which song each of them played on, and the only ones left to tell us would be Ray himself and Buddy.
Personnel: Ray Price (vocals, guitar); Arthur E. "Art" Bishop, Ray Edenton, Darrell McCall, Willie H. Nelson, Herman B. "Pete" Wade, Grover "Shorty" Lavender, Thomas Grady Martin, Donald "Donnie Young", "Johnny Paycheck" Lytle (guitar); Buddy Gene Emmons, James Clayton "Jimmy" Day (steel guitar); Byron T. Bach, Brenton Bolden Banks, George T. Binkley II, Cecil L. Brower, Howard R. Carpenter, Lillian Vann Hunt, Vernal E. Richardson (violin); Thomas Lee "Tommy" Jackson Jr. (fiddle); Floyd Cramer, Hargus M. "Pig" Robbins (piano); Joseph S. Zinkan (acoustic bass); Harold Ray Bradley (electric bass); Stephan F. "Steve" Bess, Murray M. "Buddy" Harmon Jr. (drums).
I know that this doesn't clear up who did what, but it does show that two great steel players who define the art of classic steel playing, contributed to a great album.

Seems like I heard the "Chief" on an interview saying on that particular album they needed another song so they used "24th Hour" a song that had been recorded in a previous session with Jimmy Day and that is the only song Jimmy played on for this particular album...rj |

An Artist Song List I have, does not list all of the songs on the Night Life album, but it shows Jimmy Day played on the recordings, " The 24th Hour" and " Pride". That maybe the only songs Jimmy played on in that album.
