Alabama Show a Huge Success!!
The first annual Steel Super Jam was a great success! Bill Cook's vision and leadership in establishing our "ASGA" will provide even greater exposure of our Alabama players as well as some of the finest in the world. By the way, it was great to hear a number of our Alabama players -- some very talented players and singers!!
In addition to ALL the great players and singers, the awards ceremony and the induction of Julian Tharpe into the Alabama Hall of Fame was exceptional. Many of Julian's family attended to honor one of the all time greatest steel guitarists.
The legend Don Helms provided some great memories expecially since the jam was held at the Hank Williams Musuem.
One of the most talented young steel players -- Tyler "The Kid" Hall recieved the first "Horizon Award" for the young up and coming players and Bud Carter recieved the first "Pioneer Award" for his contribution to the development of the steel guitar. Bud Carter (Carter Steel Guitars) thanked the crowd via telephone for giving him the award.
Plans are underway for a "Summer Super Steel Jam". Don't miss this one!

I had a ball at this show! When I got home last night I played until about 1:30.
You guys really got me good. They made me feel like I was Buddy Emmons. I couldn't believe I was getting an award. I'd like to thank Bill Stroud and Leon Champion for the bar. That thing is smooth as silk. I've never been around that many good...no I mean GREAT pickers. I can't wait 'till next time!

If you missed it, it was a huge loss! This was as good a show as one could expect! The only thing we needed was more time. We could've kept this baby going for 2-3 days. There were so many good pickers! I'm not talking just PSG, but musicians in general! I met so many great, new friends and saw alot of my regular buds.
The award presentations were fantastic! There was standing room only.
Alot of hard work has gone into putting on the first show. What we need are members; ACTIVE members. We have so much going for this club; from our rich PSG heritage, to the present players and the future. It's not often that an opportunity like this comes up.
If you live anywhere near Alabama, you really should check out this club. It is the REAL McCoy!

I wish to thank all of the fine people at the Alabama Steel Guitar Association for allowing me and my family the oppotunity to come down and pick this weekend and more importantly to honor my friend the late Julian THarpe.
Julian truly was one of the greatest steel guitarist who has ever lived! I miss him and the genius of his steel guitar playing! Nobody plays exactly like Julian did. He was such a talent and a great guy! You all got it right by inducting him along with Don Helms.
Stars truly did fall on Alabama! They were some of the Giants of Steel Guitar: Julian THarpe, Jimmy Day, Curly Chalker, Don Helms and Lloyd Green. Sometimes late at night I can hear their steel sounds running through my heart and mind.
Thanks Again! May GOD bless each of you and yours!

14 strings + 14 pedals = Steel Guitar Fun!

Everyone knows that the best seat in the house is at the sound board.
Well, I ran the board all day and had the VERY BEST seat in the house for what's already on the road to being the South's VERY BEST steel show! If you missed it this time, don't make that mistake again.
It'll only get better, so y'all come!

My thanks to all the people who made our first show such a huge success. All the players, the Saluda Band, the officers, advisors, members of the gang and all the people who took the time to attend.Would also like to thank the staff at The Hank Williams Museum for the use of their fine facility. We have something to build on and our future looks very bright. Our plans are to have one big show every year in February and have regional/local shows throughout the year. We would like all players, musicians and people who just like good music to join us and help us move forward. The State of Alabama is loaded with talent, and we want to showcase that talent for all to enjoy. Each year we will induct Hall of Fame members, Horizion Awards for young promising players, and a Pioneer Award for people who have influenced the Steel Guitar community. We are off to a good start. We made some mistakes, but will learn from those mistakes, and do better next time. I ask that all players from the State of Alabama and surrounding States join us and help us make this Association something Special. I would be remiss if I didn't thank all the nice folks from Georgia who helped guide us and get us off the ground. Roger Crawford and the GaSGA were a great help. I bet there was over 75 people from Georgia at the show Sunday. Thanks, Georgia!!!!!!!! Again, Thanks to all who helped make our first show a success. God Bless!!
