For me, I played it at a medium speed,between fast and slow, but I could probably play it faster now. "San Antonio Rose" is a great song to play and it's one of my favorites. It sounds great on steel.

Note: The steel guitarist on this 1987 date was the late, great Harley Brendal. Original members of the Big Country playing on this were Jim Dresssler (drums, vocal) and John Humpherys (bass). I played the six-string. Bob Britten sitting in on piano was unfortunately not in the recording mix, which makes for a ghostly piano solo. |

John,,that's appears to be around 180 bpm. Seems like 160 to 180 is good |

| Needs to be played up Tempo, otherwise it drags. It is a Dance Tune, not a dreamy Ballad. IMHO |

That's one where the lyrics of the song can provide a clue to what tempo might be appropriate, both in terms of the speed of pronouncing the syllables, and the attitude being expressed by the song.
But as a steel guitarist, what has always bothered me about the lyrics to that song is the part about "pedals falling apart"  |
