Just saw the above Robert Randolph clip on YouTube, the solo section at the end of the song sounds like he is playing some Paul Franklin blues licks there, hehehe ! We all learn from Mr Franklin !!!

No Peter, no one's too old for picking the steel !!!
Not everyone has to play rock like RR or jazz or funk or fast or whatever in order to be successfull in your music life. If you are happy doing what you doing and people like it , it's great and as long as you are enjoying it sky's the limit and you are keeping the candle burning for all of us !
Just my thoughts anyway !
