Not sure if this has been posted before or if I'm posting it in the right section of the forum but while looking at steel players on youtube I came across this guy doing an interesting take on Bach on his GFI- see what you think:

That's Doug "Ernest Bovine" Livingston. Doug is simply amazing. I saw him play in a jazz quartet few days ago.
There is a singer named Kathy Robinson who occasionally performs at a local club with just Doug on steel, and a bass player and drummer. No guitar player to clutter things up. Doug plays every fill and ride.
It is a major event every time this happens. I sit and watch in awe as Doug displays an unending stream of ideas.
Like I said, he is simply amazing.

You must have been so busy watching Glenn Beck that you missed more of these major events at Viva last week, just bass, drums, C6 steel, and the fantastic Karen Mitchell singing.
Speaking of major events, Cody has coaxed Troy Walker out of retirement every other Wednesday. |

yes, Doug is really something playing Bach on the steel- I wonder what Bach himself would have come up with?

That can only be described as fantastic.
Thank you so much for posting this.
I am not a classical fan and would never even start to try and work something out like that, but let me tell you this, that was so clever. Really clever stuff. Wow.
I contact Mike PearlyKing a few times a year and I know this is his love, and I can really appreciate the work that has gone into this.
You know, there are so many really talented musicians out there and I am so grateful that YouTube exists so that we can all see it at a click of a button.

| Beautiful. When I first watched that video a month or two ago I was inspired to try finding the notes to the first few measures of a Bach Sinfonia (Bb) on the steel, and then when it became immediately apparent how hard that was going to be I picked something shorter and "easier," one of the Bach chorales, and even there I didn't actually reach a conclusion as to whether an accurate rendition of the piece was even possible on my guitar. But the music sure sounds great on steel if one can get it over there and play it nicely, as on this video. I'd love to hear more of this. |
