Man, I just found out about this, I imagine there is a record forthcoming. I'm really curious to see how they handle this, as I'm sure it will be a complete re-working of their music. Can't wait to hear it....

Why oh why does this have to take place so far away from me? That sounds like a great collaboration. I'm a huge fan of BIll Frisell and Greg Leisz; to hear them doing the music of The Flaming Guitars would be a huge thrill.
I know Buddy Miller is coming out with a CD called "Majestic Silver Strings" featuring him, Bill Frisell, Marc Ribot and Greg Leisz. I hope this results in a CD as well. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

How could this be a one off? They've gotta play the coasts too.....he says wishing it were true. |

I checked in with "folks who know" and no record is planned...YET. Still early in the process...but it certainly is "record worthy." More will be revealed.
No doubt it will be brilliant...different from the original and brilliant. |

This would be so interesting to hear - Frisell and Leisz have such a fundamentally different musical sensibility from West and Bryant (discounting the fact that they play the exact same instruments, and have the same interest in mixing up country, pop and jazz.) I suspect the title of the show gives a pretty good indication of how they are going to work that out: "Not So Fast." |

It'll be interesting to see how these guys vary the set, just as the originals weren't just flash splash and crash but could get flat out surreal with Speedy's gorgeous slow work. If no tour, this show NEEDS to be recorded and released. |

The Disfarmer set that is mentioned in the article was commissioned and performed originally at Wexner, no tour or recording was planned....and they ended up doing both. So, let's hope. _________________ ***WARNING: the above commentary is probably Chris' OPINION, and therefore, he thinks he's right. |

The Defamer music is really interesting and might be a good lens for guessing how they might interpret Speedy & Jimmy's music. |

Maybe this should be in Steel Players? Greg will likely play pedal steel as well as lap? |

Good suggestion, Marc. Every steel player in the area should know about this.

Boy, I intend to be there. Just know that the tickets being offered now are for members only of the center. General sales won't start, they tell me, until about January 10th. So, unless you want to pay $50 to $100 for a membership, you have to wait and assume decent tickets will be available.

That sounds fantastic. Ben Sims, I liked your comment which mirrored my thinking -- they're fundamentally different but ... all those similarities.
Btw -- Res Abbasi, mentioned in the link, is a monster musician and well worth a listen. |
