Greg Leisz and Daniel Lanois

Post by Rick Hulett »

I recorded this during rehearsal for an Emmylou Harris show in Portland last week. During a break, Daniel Lanois and Greg Leisz started jamming. I thought some of you might be interested.

Thanks, that's great! Those guys have a really good sound together. Lanois is such a sonic iconoclast and Leisz is just the consummate accompanist.

There is no one in the world plays the guitar like him or can get the sound that Lanois gets. Until you've stood there in front of him and had him peel your face off with it, you'll never understand. The few times I've been in the same room with him playing were simply awe-inspiring.

Saw the show that night - it was incredible. They played Emmylou's "Wrecking Ball" from front to back and many other goodies as well. What an amazing sound. Truly a night to remember.

Is there any recordings/links to the actual show around yet?
Would love to see that.

They recorded it, but I haven't heard yet whether they'll release it. There was some talk of a re-release of Wrecking Ball with live cuts, but I don't know if that will happen. They played that album in it's entirety that night. Great concert.

It was a really a special show. I didn't play, a friend of mine helped Brian Blade promote this show and the Fellowship show on Saturday at the Bagdad. Both shows were benefits for the Portland rescue Mission. Greg used one of my amps and some other gear. It was great, I got to hang out from noon to 7 at the theater the day before for their rehearsal, cart everyone around in a rented van and hang the next day for soundcheck. Awesome couple of days.

And Brian Blades used Dave Easley for a project... there would be a band for the ages, they could play rubber bands for all I care.
