Amarillo By Morning on the Lap Steel

Post by Chuck S. Lettes »

Over the years I've played Amarillo By Morning too many times to count, but I thought I might revisit it with the tenor saxophone (Horns of Plenty) and the lap steel. Hope you enjoy the arrangement. http://www.hsga.org/new_design/ChuckLettes.htm

I hear Van Morrison singing

And is that a Hammond B3 in the background? I love the combination of the Organ, Horns, and Steel. It is on all my favorite songs, recordings. Thanks, Mr. Lettes!
How do you make such great recordings? Curious minds want to know...

Thanks, guys. Glad that you are enjoying the music. Steve, you also get a great sound out of your guitar, plus I've enjoyed the variety of tunes that you have posted. Mike, I'm like you in that I think the horn and steel are natural combinations. I've had trouble blending the B3 sound with my pedal steel, but it seems to work better with the lap steel. I've been using BIAB with some of the "real" instruments, a great tool for practicing. I then record using Adobe Audition, a simple but easy-to-use program that I really enjoy.

Superb lapsteel, Chuck

Chuck, I'm not given to flattery, so I'm speaking sincerely. That is some of the sweetest, smoothest, lap steel "pickin'" I've heard since the passing of the Master, JB. Same great tonality, very similar vibrato...smoothness of chord progressions, etc. Loved it and listened to several on the link.

Thanks for some GREAT music. :D

Sounds great, Chuck. I love the crystalline tone of the steel. Very smooth.

Thanks, guys. Judging from the tunes that we post, we all love the sound of the lap steel. OJ, I often wonder what Jerry Byrd would do with the melody when I arrange some of the more recent music. He has always been an inspiration to me. Doug, I read in recent post that you are having some hand/finger issues. I hope you feel better soon and have some peace of mind. Mike and Kay, hope to see you guys at the Dallas show in March.
