Emmons and Maness on YouTube

Post by Peter Freiberger »

Some terrific soloing here by Buddy Emmons (#1 on my "Best Seven" list, btw):

and one with Jay Dee playing with his usual tone and taste, a great intro and solo, and also a great example of how to back up a singer:

Anybody know what effect Buddy was using at the time of the gigs with Danny Gatton ?

Perhaps a flanger ? / make ? / model ?

I'm betting it's a Peavey 500 with internal phase built in. Ken

I've seen pictures from this period where he has an MXR Phase 90 plugged directly into the side of the guitar via a male/male plug. Kinda sounds like it on that track, too.

This might've been during the time when he was carrying that Anvil briefcase full of stomp-box effects with him.

I've also read where he sometimes used an Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress.

I always dug that tone he was able to get.

Any other ideas?

On "High Fashion Queen" the piano is played by Skip Edwards who is a member of the Forum.
