Looking for any info anyone might have on the Standel model AG24. What I know is that it's solid state with reverb and tremolo. The 2 x 12 speakers are Standel branded S112's and have aluminum dust caps. The seller thinks it puts out 100 watts and was built in 1969. I've heard the solid state Standels can be great amps for steel. I'm finding zip online. Any info on this model would be appreciated! |

Tim, an old discussion re: Standel. I don't know much about them, but this thread suggests Trusonic built the speakers.
Perhaps the OP Dave Zirbel will have some further info on his findings.
FWIW, I found a Standel SS with 2 15's like those 12's in a music store a few years back. They didn't know much about the amp or the speakers, but someone else told me that those slide switches were encased in some kind of silicate or some material that made them impossible to service.
I've forgotten the model of the one I saw, but it weighed a ton perhaps due in part to the twin 15" drivers and the necessary cabinet size to house them.
I didn't have an opportunity to play a steel through it. All I can say is that it sounded alright with a standard 6 string. They had it priced somewhere around $400 as I recall.
I think the Standel amps that steel players loved were the tube type models. A search here using those terms will return several discussions about them.

Well, I picked this amp up for $150. I must say it's an amazingly warm sounding amp. Honestly it sounds warmer and richer than my Twin Reverb. The four transistors put it somewhere in the 70 - 80 watt range. I found out the Trusonic speakers are modeled after the JBL D120 (not the D120F) and they sound incredible. Terrific match for my Fender 1000. I can't wait to try it out on a gig. This Standel may become my #1 amp. What a distinctive tone! |
