The latest recording by me and Hugh Harris:

Again, this is the 8-string Desert Rose tuned to D6th. Through the magic of overdubbing, Hugh is playing rhythm and lead guitar. He's learning to use a looper pedal so that we can pull this off live.
Also, we have a new mix of Crazy Arms:

Both were recorded in my home studio, on a Roland VS-1880.

Recording is hard work, but the results are gratifying. Hugh had the idea to do this tune on Thursday afternoon. I didn't really know it. He laid down the rhythm and put his lead guitar on top of it, then went home.
I woodshedded by playing along to his tracks with the Real Book chart in front of me for a few hours. Eventually, I hit the "Record" button and got a take I could live with - almost. There's one punch during Hugh's solo where I botched the chords.
The steel part is tentative in places because I didn't know the song very well. Also, the turnaround at the end of the progression isn't easy to play as a chord melody - I probably spent half an hour just trying to find a good position and play it right. The effects on the steel mask a multitude of sins. Nevertheless, I'm happy with the way it came out.

I would appreciate any constructive criticism about my mixing via email. I struggle quite a bit trying to get things to sound right, but my ears are far from perfect. Please, if you have any ideas that might improve my mixes, send them to me.
