TWO Fender Deluxes--6 & 8 String

Post by Chris Battis »

I need to move one of these 22 1/2" Deluxes and will keep the other--it doesn't really matter which one stays.

From the details of the their tolex case interiors, the 8-string dates from c. 1959 and the 6-string from c. 1961: http://home.provide.net/~cfh/fendcase.jpg

Both are working perfectly, are fine-sounding and in 8.5 condition, with a few age-appropriate finish scratches. All the chrome is clean and their original cases are both in excellent condition. More photos available on request.

Deluxe 6: $750 + shipping
Deluxe 8: $850 + shipping

The prices reflect only what I have in them and I'll make a contribution to bOb when the deal is done. Sales to US with Paypal preferred. Questions?...

Chris

drifting

Naah..."No Country For Old Men" next to it is the one to go for...just read it last week, and as much as I like the Coen brothers, wish I hadn't seen the film beforehand.
Going through a Cormac McCarthy phase, also read "The Road" and just started his first "The Orchard Keeper"...plan to work my way through all of 'em:

The Orchard Keeper (1965)
Outer Dark (1968)
Child of God (1974)
Suttree (1979)
Blood Meridian, Or the Evening Redness in the West (1985)
All the Pretty Horses (1992)
The Crossing (1994)
Cities of the Plain (1998)
No Country for Old Men (2005)
The Road (2006)

Nice guitars...a second glance at the bookshelf reveals the Border trilogy and Blood Meridian too.

Funny, didn't notice the lit on the shelf. Kerouac, DF Wallace, Kem Nunn, David Sedaris...looks like my house. Good stuff, Chris.

Being serious

Post by Dave Manion »

How did you like The Road? Does someone know how to transfer this pic and accompanying comments to another thread? Kinda inexperienced at this, but seriously think a cool thread could happen. I've been digging Cormac McCarthy for a long time, and would love to hear others opinions or recommendations regarding reading material. (and I love Lonesome Dove etc!)

Again, I'm sorry for using being off topic, but I guess it will put it "to the top" as I've seen done. Also, I DID look originally to see the steels, and they are beautiful!

Just to double check....is the 8 gone for sure?
Thanks
Dave

Sorry, Dave, the 8-string has gone to a good home.

I like Cormac McCarthy ok, though the darkness of "The Road" and some of his other work was a bit much for me. By comparison, "No Country for Old Men" is a lighthearted romp. My taste these days runs more to Annie Proulx and Jim Harrison.

I've read everything Blood Meridian and on, except for the Road. Looked too dark evenfor me. I think I'll start in on his earlier stuff and I will look up the authors you mentioned. THanks for replying, and have a good one.

Dave ~

Thought I'd pitch in again before this wayward thread fades..."The Road" is a grim tale of survival in extreme circumstances, a bit of the gruesome for sure...still a good tale in the telling.
Really is no section in the Forum for this type of discussion to be moved to as the focus here is on steel guitar and Music. And I also clicked in with an interest in the 8 string guitar offered...own a D6 of the same vintage.
I see there's a whistle clean mid-sixties 8 up right now for a few dollars more...yikes.

If you haven't seen the movie "The Road" don't bother. It's an emotional snooze compared to the book. I thought "No Country..." as a movie was a little weak, too. I imagined the sheriff as much more of a good ol' boy type than Tommy Lee Jones could pull off.

And right on with Annie Proulx. Reading "The Shipping News" years ago prompted a long quest for a copy of "Ashley's Book of Knots," a fascinating tome, which I finally found.

OK, back to guitars. Mail man just brought me something, time to take a look.

The Road is dark, but it's about goodness, it's his most stripped prose, a lyric one-sitting read. No Country is darker, Blood Meridian being even darker, they are about evil. The Road is almost antithetical to Blood Meridian. Nice book shelf, Chris.
