The American rock band Celilo (pronounced "suh-LIE-low") is looking for a pedal steel guitarist to play a tour of the UK from October 28th through Novmber 14th. This band, based in Portland, Oregon, plays a hybrid style that could be described as "Rootys Americana with psychedlic flourishes." You can learn more about the band here:
www.myspace.com/celilo
The pedal steel parts provide texture and are not technically difficult. The band leader is asking for someone who is good at playing "spacey, atmospheric, melodic parts rather than flashy classic licks."
The tour includes two (possibly three) shows in London as well as gigs in Manchester, Leeds, Swindon, Ripon, and several other cities. Further booking is still underway and it seems likley that the tour will ultimately entail around 10 shows.
Although the band has professional representation/booking/publicity in the UK, this is the group's first overseas tour and is largely self-funded. Compensation, therefore, will be less sumptuous than a record company-funded tour. The band will provide accommodations, transportation, and cash payment for playing the tour.
(EDIT: Thanks to all the U.S. steelers who have inquired. I should point out that the band can't afford to fly a steel player into the UK from abroad; they are therefore looking for someone already in the area.)
Reviews of the band in the European press have been positive and Uncut magazine will be reviewing the group's self-released CD next month. It may be an interesting prospect for certain steelers to play with an emerging band that is receiving a bit of buzz.
Please help spread the word by sharing this offer with any pedal steel guitarists who might fit the bill. Interested parties should contact Tucker Jackson for further information at:

Hi Tucker, I'd love to do it but I'm getting married that week. It wouldn't go down too well. Have you tried Spencer Cullum?
