What guitar did he use? Dosn't sound like his Emmons.

It was done in 1996, I believe, which would rule out the MSA Studio Pro and I believe also the Frank Carter modded MCI he had for a while. So I'd bet it was one of his P/P's, but of course there are always a lot of variables in the recording/mixing process beyond the control of the player. There are differences of tone on a lot of recordings he's done, but always a common stylistic element that makes it unmistakably Jay Dee.

He's Phenominal ... (did I spell that right? :? )...and to think in the late 70's he took the solo on Ray Steven's "Misty" in one take :)

Isn't it amazing and pleasant to find great steel guitar when you're not even looking for it. Kudos to JJ, WR, and SD for their part. Lastly..thanks for the post. Regards,RK

I saw (and heard) Jay Dee yesterday, playing elegantly, as always. That cut was recorded direct, as were all the Chris and Herb recordings, which accounts for differences in tone. The technology has improved and he is less averse to recording this way when necessary, but still prefers using an amp.
