D-8 Guyatone

Post by Larry Kunkel »

I recently saw a D-8 Guyatone in a pawn shop in Cranbrook, B.C. I'm assuming Guyatone. It had no name that I could find. At the fret markers were Capitol letter "Gs". Anyone know the history of this model????

All I've been able to establish is that the Guyatone steel guitars were made in Japan between approximately 1946 and 1960. The Guyatone name has been revived as a series of pedals, amps, and cables. Perhaps they'll have some more info.

Hi Larry: I know a guy who has one of those. His has three legs: two on the right end, and one on the left. It also has three pick-ups -- two on the back neck. He paid about C$250.00, maybe C$300.00 no more, last year in Nova Scotia.

I have a brown double 8 , a "Guya G Tone" it's called. Two pickups on the front neck and one on the back.It resembles a Stringmaster in looks and the sound is pretty decent, although not great.I paid approx.
$220.00(with a soft case)and that was from ebay.It has 4 legs.

The ones I've tried didn't sound very good.
