Anybody ever shipped a PSG overseas?

Trying to get an idea of what all is involved. I've got someone interested in the Maverick but just from doing quick estimates on Fedex and UPS's website, the shipping in astronomical! Any potential pains I need to know about? If the guy guys it, I want to make sure it gets across the pond in one piece and with the least amount of hassle possible.

Yeah, that's what I'm finding too, USPS is about half the price of Fedups

David, the shipping does look high compared to what you would expext to ship in the CONUS, but our friends across the pond do (or should) realize that it's a fact of life and are typically prepared for it. A guitar I recently packed for overseas shipment had a little extra care in packaging. The guitar was a pretty tight fit in the case, but a piece or corigated cardboard between each end plate and the case snugged it up good and tight. I wrapped the pedal bar in bubble wrap to protect it. I also put some supports between the front of the case and the divider for the pedal bar compartment. For the outside packaging, I cut some 3/4" foam insulation pieces that completely covered the case. You can get this at HD or Lowes, and it's pretty cheap. Now box that up in double thickness corigated and you're ready to go.

Thanks Roger! That's almost exactly how I planned to pack it right down to the foam insulation! Great minds think alike! I've been lucky shipping stuff in the US and never had anything get damaged except for an electric that had the pickups selector switch broken off. I did have an Evans amp that went to maryland if memory serves me right, and when it got there, the screws for the chassis had vibrated loose and the chassis was in the bottom of the cabinet! I walked the guy through putting it back together over the phone and it still worked! The first few minutes of that phone call were scary though!

Amp and speaker mounting screws working loose might be a reason to use that low strength Loktite?????

I shipped a Peavey N-1000 all the way to New Zealand from Nashville and a great 9 & 8 Franklin to UK via. UPS, with no problems at all! And some UPS Stores will even do the packing for you, for an additional fee, but; then they will really handle it with caution and take responsibility for it arriving safely!!

Thanks 'Bear. I had pretty much decided on USPS but your information was very helpful. I'm gonna try to get 'er packed up today or tomorrow and get it to the post office for an exact estimate.

I recently shipped my former white mica MSA to Germany, and as I recall the shopping was exorbitant. I forget the exact amount. (The buyer paid it.) At his request, we declared the value to be only $700, to keep his import fees down.

I took the guitar and case to a professional shipping outfit called Box Brothers, http://www.boxbros.com/ and they packed it, as well as handled the shipping. I don't know exactly what they did, but the guitar arrived with no problems or damage.

Cool, I was just getting ready to throw a set of strings on the Maverick for the buyer and noticed the keyhead rollers were all gummed up so I pulled the keyhead and got the rollers off and cleaned them. I was surprised to find that the rollers are actually guaged! My pro model buds I had didn't even have that!! Anyway, the rollers are cleaned, oiled and working great now! I oiled the machine heads as well, old open gear grovers but they work great!Time to get 'er strung back up and packed up.
