Record Doesn Not Indicate

Post by Peter Dollard »

I just checked my Stony Edwards CD and it has some liner notes and a biography but no mention of the sidemen. His career, what there was of it, took a big hit when he recorded a Chip Taylor called "Black Bird"... even in 1975 it was a hard sell to use a racial slur in a song, you know the one!(which was briefly mentioned in the song). Though Stony was an Afro American no one wanted to play the song as it was released and it only reached number 41 on the charts...It would be interesting to see what the reaction would be today. Stoney died April 6, 1997

Sorry I don't know about that cut. Slightly off topic, but this one sounds to me like Buddy Emmons.

Those harmonics are a dead giveaway that is Buddy...Stony also played some shows out in California and recrded for Capitol; it is possible that that was when Buddy was on the west coast in his "Someday Soon" Period with Judy Collins. I know Stony toured with Asleep At The Wheel in the early days
