YouTube Subscription: What's this all about?

I don't get it. What are the pros and cons of subscribing? I never have, and I am afraid that might be perceived as being rude. Actually, I'm just ignorant.

Paul, When you subscribe, you sign up to be alerted to new files by a contributor, you will get all of his files into your subscription page as he contributes.
Contrary to being rude, I feel that this is actually a compliment you pay to the person.

To use an example, I like the instruction videos that you contribute, therefor a subscribe to you.

OTOH, if I go tired of any contributor, I simply unsubscribe.

After discovering Mickey Adams lessons on YouTube and the SGF I sent b0b $5 to become a member here and "subscribed" to Singlpilot aka Mickey Adams on YouTube. By subscribing, I am notified via email anytime he posts a new vid. Just an easy way to keep up to date on new lessons. BTW, I subscribed to your channel as well. Thanks for the good work!
