Post by Bob Knight »

Look what I found today!!
Ser#19XX, has a "5" in pencil on masking tape under key heads pan.
Can someone tell what year it was made?
It is MINT,no dings, scratches etc.

From the raised logo on the case and good condition I'd say mid to late 60s.Probably 68 or so.Great ax,BTW. I had one just like it and like a fool,I sold it a few years ago.I put Junior Brown's tuning(G,E,C,A,G,E,C,Bb) on it and was covering a lot of musical ground AND traveling LIGHT...Enjoy! -MJ-

Yeah b0b that is normal. I have owned several Deluxe Fenders and they all had the Jack there. Hey Bob Knight; did you ever look underneath the masking tape? Just wondering. I believe Michael is right; about the case. Have fun.

There is one just like that ... A Deluxe 8 in the 1970 Fender catalog.

The doubles and triples I've had; are in back. But the single-8's I've had are in front. Of course; I haven't even come close to seeing them all; so b0b; yours might have been; but I guess that one is long gone now? And of course; I'm only talking about the Fenders with the stringmaster design pick-ups; I don't know anything about the other Fenders at all. Image

b0b,
Here is a pic of the guitar you owned, the jack is the same as mine. Image
No Ricky, I didn't pull the tape off as I wanted to leave it original.
Is the date normally under the tape?

Well mostly they wrote on the wood; but sometimes wrote on a piece of tape and put it over where it was written on the wood; but sometimes the moisture would rub off the numbers on the tape; so I was wondering if it still is on the wood. I don't know what they did with the newer models past the '60s.

Late 60's at the earliest, because of the new style plate logo...sometimes the date is in the control cavity, but in the late 60's the date will either written or stamped(after 69, dark grey coil bobbin) on the bottom of the pickups, nice one, Bob,
Aloha, Mike
PS what's the scale length on that one?
[This message was edited by mikey on 11-15-99]
