Logic on the Mac

Post by Mark Butcher »

Anybody out there plugging their PSG direct to Logic or Mainstage? I can get great sounds with guitars and a host of other instruments but I find I need to use my Micro Cube as a pre amp to get an aceptable tone for my PSG. Anyone got any suggested settings?

I've got Logic 9 with the 'new' amp model plug, and I still like just the guitar through a DI and some channel EQ better than any of the models. I'm like you, I can get some decent guitar tones, but I struggle with steel.

I also use my '69 Deluxe Reverb w/SM-57 for steel, and it's probably the best of the bunch. I think there's something about having real 'air' in the equation.

Tommy Detamore uses or has used several of the third-party plugs from time to time (Amplitude, etc.) he may see this and chime in, but I think he records a lot through a Twin.

With you on the 'air' Bill, but I need to shut up for domestic reasons!

This link is relevant.
Heres a quote from another earlier thread on analog delay that is relevant here:

there are some nice modeled amps and pedals.
Here's what I've been using at home:

Though not true analog, it suits me fine for recording
and quiet headphone practice listening to
steelradio.com.

One cool feature is the mic placement.
Use this instead of eq to dial in your tone!

Im using the silverface amp with a brownface 15". Just like I might in real life haha.
The amp knobs are dialed in for me as pictured. Kinda fuzzy, sorry.
The drive and delay are set as well on the pedalboard.

Cheers,

I haven't bothered to upgrade from 8 to 9 but it looks like my anorexic piggy bank needs to be raided again.

THIS is straight from my Profex with no altered setting within Logic Pro except the added reverb.
