If we dare... we can play into a new dimension on the six string C6 Lap Steel. I have a start on it here with the MP3 Clip that is part of this thread. It uses just the first 4 strings of the basic C6th Lap Steel Tuning and requires no pedals.
More particularily it follows the same steps as the E9th. pedal steel only here you can do it all with the Lap Steel on your knee, console with legs...whatever....again no pedals or knee levers?
For anyone purchasing one of my Courses as per info on my site ( see and clic on on signature below) I will send a "slow down" MP3 and easy to read ClicTab Tablature so you can learn this great and fun technique.
If you have already purchased one of my Courses in the past you are still eligible at a reduced cost.
I am really into this and what you hear on the clip is just a start. It can get a lot faster.
Feel free to contact me by email.

Question:
Can this same "Speed Steel Picking" be accomplished,,,without using open strings, in a different key further up the neck. IMHO the greatest Speed Picking was done by Joaquin Murphy and I don't believe he used open strings. I think your playing was great but this is where Pedal Steel lets you do speed picking in about any Key. If you are not using any open strings I take back my question ! |

Thanks Bill!
Billy, the only open stings are on the bridge part
of the tune. The speed pickin' segments are all
barred notes. Therefore, this progression can also be transposed to different keys.

Right on Doug!
For those interested in learning this
progression and trying the technique I have
divided the instrumental into 6 Segments
or Phrases which includes the Bridge. Tabbed it
out and recorded a slow down of each Phrase.
It's slow going because it forces you to
get your blocking correctly or else you will
not get a "clean" sound. Don't expect overnight
success...it may take months.. so you work on it
regularly and progress slowly. It will make
you a better player in the end if you can get
it.
Visit my ClicTab Site re: signature below and
