I found out the hard way, that my Stroboflip has a problem with the 6th string G# tuning. I was tuning with it at a steel jam while others were playing. When it came my turn to play, I was way out of tune on the 6th string. I have since discovered, that if loud music is playing, the tuner shows that the 6th G# is really sharp. I have to wait for some quiteness, between songs, before I tune the 6th. All of the other strings tune fine, but for some reason, the built in mic must be picking up something that is messing up the 6th string tuning, but why only the 6th string? Not a problem, now that I know, but I am just curious if anybody else has run into this problem on their Stroboflips. |

If it's a plain string, it probably has much more inharmonicity than other strings. In that case, the you may be tuning one harmonic, but not the one(s) that you hear most.
IMO, the (only) advantage of a strobe-tuner display is that you can see each harmonic independently, so you know right away if you have an inharmonicity problem. In that case, you could try tuning a different harmonic (experiment).
If it only happens when you play loud, maybe then you are picking the string harder when you tune, making it sound sharper when you tune than when you play normally. |

Earnest, thanks for your response, but I may have not made myself clear. This problem is not when I am playing, it is when others are playing. If somebody is playing with either tracks or with a band, I have to wait until they stop and things get quieter. Otherwise, the tuner is way off on the 6th string and the 6th string only. I wonder what Peterson would have to say about this? No problem now that I know how to handle it. Still wondering if anybody else has ever heard of this problem. |

Looking at the offset chart in the manual, I see that G# will be sharp if you use the PSG-SC6 setting or any of several of the temperaments. Could this be related to your problem? You might try entering your own offsets. |

George, I seems like you must be using the Mic input on the tuner to tune with instead of one of the 1/4" phone inputs. If this is the case, I would expect that the tuner would have a hard time locking on your guitar's notes when it is also picking up other noise. Mine will tune pretty well with the mic as long as ambient noise if very low. I do agree that the tuner in general struggles with notes around the G# area as the strobe tends to jump in and out of sync with G# notes. Mine is quite a bit more stable with lower level inputs and when used with the AC power adapter versus batteries.
