These are pictures of my Music School, The National Institure of Music and Arts, at our annual Concert at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in West Los Angeles in 1943. I am the Steel player in the very middle. In the Hula Dancer picture I am hidden. This was just one part of our Condert of about 50 of us student Steel and Violin players.

Very cool! A clear testament to how popular it was back at that time. Love the hula dancers. I take it they taught hula dancing at the school too?

Beautiful photos. I wish I could have attended the concert. The 3 piece drum group must have been there for the Hawaiian War Chant.

Any memory of the songs that were performed?

Here is a picture of the whole Orchestra in 1943. I am sitting on the left side of the front row of Steel Guitars. This is all the Students of our Teacher, Agnes K. Roberts. We were mostly violins and Steel Guitars with a professional pianist furnished by NIOMA. We played a variety of music, not just Hawaiian. The additional picture is a group of selected Steel Guitars playing Spanish music. I am sitting to the right of the two girls sitting togeter in the first row. The girl in the back row was Twila Jensen who I was in love with but she never did know.
