Sarah Jory Hwy 40 Blues & Together Again!

Post by David Higginbotham »

Showing amazing talent at such a young age! Anyone else hear a combination of Tom Brumley and John Hughey in there?

Certainly a very talented young lady, her tutor is a fellow forum member. Dissapeared some years ago from the scene, giving up working in her own right to hang on to the coatails of some 3rd rate rock star in his traveling show.

James.

Hey, mister, how do you pedal that thing anyway?

Too many steels, amps & other stuff, and an open mind. I have tube amp bias.

According to her web site,http://www.sarahjory.co.uk/ , she's playing with Van Morrison (which was alluded to by James)

I enjoyed the video of "City Lights". I noticed she plays the Day setup as well. Sarah is definitely a fantastic player.

hmmm...never heard Van Morrison described as 3rd rate rock star. Makes me wonder who is 2nd and 1st rate.

You're right, Bill, Van Morrison has a ways to go reach the level of third rate, but he was a friend of Lonnie Donegan's, and any friend of Lonnie Donegan is a friend of mine. :D

I have a lot of respect for anyone who can sing and play pedal steel simultaneously, and, of course, any woman playing pedal steel is a great turn-on for me. :D   8)

A couple of years ago, at Scotty's show, she played the theme from the movie "Titanic". I wonder if there's a U-Tube version of it?

Sarah's amazing! I used to do that gig occasionally (she's playing with Tony Goodacre in that 'Mr Ting-a-ling' video) and I'm mightily relieved that he didn't expect ME to execute those harmonics - he'd have been disappointed!!!

Alan: Did you know that Van M. now owns Lonnie's 1967 Martin 000-28? He bought it from Sharon (Mrs D) after LD died.

While there was some benefit to Lon's profile in terms of exposure to a younger crowd during his 'collaboration' with Morrison, I thought it an unhappy alliance! VM wasn't in LD's class, and his attempts to match Lonnie's vocals were pathetic. I imagine that being on stage with Donegan was a childhood ambition of his, and his status in the music world gave him the opportunity - the recorded examples of the pairing are evidence that it should never have happened! They were/are, by the way, both extremely volatile characters, and some of the back-stage 'discussions' would get pretty heated....

'Third rate'? I don't think he's quite that good! :whoa:
Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles, Martins, and a Gibson Super 400!

I agree entirely, Roger. Lonnie's live album in Ireland with Chris Barber and Van Morrison was excellent, but Morrison's singing was pathetic, and the album would have been much better without him.

Let me state that I am not nor have I ever been a fan of Van Morrison.

That being said, I started this post to recognize and share the extremely talented Sarah Jory, not to create a "beat up" post directed at anyone. Let's please focus on Sarah.
Thanks guys!
