Distance between necks on console?

Post by Martin Nicholes »

What is the optimal distance between 2 lap steels sitting on a console? Or is it just a player's pref?

Is 8.5" too much? If different scales, what would be the best point to line them up at?

thanks

If you're going to be playing both necks during a song or instrumental, I recommend they be fairly close to each other so when you change necks back and forth it will be a fluid transition.

My '56 Stringmaster is 4.5" from neck to neck (measuring from the same string on each neck). My first guess at alignment for different scale lengths would be at the nut.
