Serial numbers are assigned according to production of the body. Black is in such demand they are built up as soon as bodies are made. Less popular colors may be built and stored for several years before they are assembled and sold.

Roger, Larry; Jack Strayhorn says the S/N is stamped when the body is built, not when the unit is sold. So, certain colors might sit on the shelf longer than others, while waiting for the order! _ _ _ Oh, sorry! I didn't see the preceeding Post, until now!
