Phil Leadbetter Signature Dobro
I am the second owner. This instrument is in very good to excellent condition. Some player wear to the nickel hardware is evident, but that is too be expected with nickel hardware (see last pic).
Original owner replaced the original tailpiece because it split.
The instrument is expertly set up. There are no buzzes or rattles at all.
Included with the instrument is the original hardshell case, strap, two instructional books and the original hang tag from Elderly Instruments.
$1,100 shipped OBO. I am interested in trades, but primarily bass gear at the moment. However, it never hurts to ask.
Normally, I only accept PayPal. But I will happily accept postal money orders from members of this forum. Local pickup is fine as well.
Also feel free to email me at: mike.tatro56@gmail.com.
See eBay feedback for Tonemonkey.

How in the world did someone split a metal tailpiece?

Re: Dobro
Dave, like I said... the previous owner told me this. I wasn't there so I don't know.

The tailpieces will crack and split due to metal fatigue if they are not positioned properly at the factory. The tailpiece should be resting on the coverplate for support, if not it will flex and eventually crack and break. I replaced two of them on my Gibson made "DoBro" before diagnosing the problem.

Interesting. I've had 10 and never seen that but none of them were Gibson's. Must be a Gibson thing.

Do the Gibson's have that piece of black rubber between the plate and the cover?

More tailpiece info. The original owner was unable to obtain a nickel replacement tailpiece and therefore replaced the broken one with a chrome replacement part. No extra holes were drilled.
After I bought the instrument, I contacted a Gibson support rep and told him that I was interested in maintaining the integrity of this instrument. He sent me a genuine Gibson replacement tailpiece. I wasn't sure I could find it, but I did. I will be including this replacement tailpiece with the sale.
It's brand new and pretty glossy. It appears to be nickel, but might be chrome. It's just hard to tell sometimes. I held it next to the nickel cover and the chrome tailpiece. The tailpiece from the Gibson rep does not appear to be as "bluish" as the one the original owner put on. I have to take the Gibson's rep at his word on this (that is IS the correct replacement part).
Potential buyers, please understand that I have honestly disclosed everything I know about the situation. If this is a deal breaker, it's probably best to move on. This is a heck of an instrument for the $$$. All sales are as-is and final. The only warranty I typically offer is that the item was accurately represented and any issues were forthrightly and honestly disclosed.

These are great sounding resos. They use a post design instead of a baffle and are very even and sweet sounding. I'm not normally a fan of Gibsons, Beards are more to my taste but the Leadbetters sound as good or better than any Beard R I've played.
