Videos of CJ Udeen and Rose Family in Minnesota
I have uploaded some videos to YouTube featuring the playing of CJ Udeen, steel player for Gary Allen, and the Rose Family, featuring Larry Rose on steel.
Chad (CJ) is the son of Al Udeen, and has played with Hank III, Andy Griggs and now with Gary Allen. CJ is a very accomplished player and I don't often get to see him perform. He was home for a family visit, and we got the chance to see him in action with some of our great local players. He also did a duet with his dad Al.
The Rose Family is Minnesota longest continuous performing family band. It consists of Larry Rose, his wife Beverly and Larry's Uncle Dave. The band has been performing in Minnesota since 1949.
Larry began playing the steel about 3 years ago, after the bands steel player Curt Olsen passed away from cancer. Larry also plays lead guitar and bass, as well as sings. Dave also plays bass and lead guitar and provides harmony vocals and sometimes lead vocals. Bev has one of the finest voices in music and can sing most any style, but is very strong in country vocals.
In the videos, the Rose Family has Kevin Lange playing bass. Kevin is the father of Eddie Lange, who recently played steel guitar for Bill Anderson.
The videos of CJ Have Nate Dungan on lead, his brother James on bass, and Keely Lane on drums. Nate also heads up his own band called Trailer Trash, and does a country show with his brother James called Tennesota. James also plays bass with Becky Thompson and Old School, a very traditional country band, which also has Joe Savage on steel. Dan Gaardner, and Reegan also appear with CJ. Dan and Reegan have a group called Country Outlaws, and Dan is a lead guitar player with Trailer Trash.
Hope you enjoy the videos.

Thanks for sharing those vid's.. I met CJ a couple years ago at the Sangamon County Fair in Springfield IL. My band was playing at the beer tent for about 1500 peeps, Gary Allens show finished at the Grandstand and jumping up on our stage was CJ - he jumped on the pedal steel and was dead on.. it was a great set.

Yes, Chad did play with Molly and the Haymakers prior to my meeting him and his dad Al. Never saw the group when they were active.
Sorry for the bad link to YouTube. Still getting the hang of it. Please use this one provided by Don.

Thanks for watching the videos, but they were made with a digital camera. My cellphone can only take photos, which I very seldom do. My digital camera has a video recording setting, so that is how it was done.
This is the first time that I tried to capture players using this method, so it may not be the best method, but it was easy to use, and I will be looking at improving the quality in later videos.
Glad that you enjoyed them.
