This is a really good idea. The nonpedal room has no way of generating an income to sustain itself.

Hi Ben -

This is a great idea, and I certainly appreciate it. We need it for the the non-pedal event to continue.

I'm wondering what the best way might be to go about it?

I could open an PayPal account, or is there a different payment venue with less fees?

I want to keep it simple for all.

Thanks!

Hi Jeff:

Perhaps more than one way is good.....an account where you could deposit checks, money orders, etc and also possibly a PayPal account (I don't know what their fees are) which make it very easy for people with PayPal accounts to contribute. I am sure that a local bank could help with the kind of account you would need in the former case. I suspect accepting VISA/MC is a bit more involved.

I guess in some way I have nominated you (or Howard) to be the focal point for this. If I can help in any way, let me know.

I think that it is very important to keep Rick's Room going....it is a CLASS operation. Thanks for all of your dedication.

Ben

I also think a variety would be good. Even pledges might be simple enough for folks who are attending. Some may want to donate, but don't want to create a PayPal account if they don't already have one. Plus, there's a fee per transaction....It's not much, but perhaps there's another option, where a company isn't making money off of us.

I want the Non-Pedal room to continue, but it needs funding, since it cannot run for free. Some have suggested to charge admission. But, I really don't want it to come to that, and neither did Rick. We spent many hours on the road talking about the future of the event. Charging admission would take away from the magic of people coming in to enjoy the music, and it would complicate things. The better way is through private donations and sponsorship.

The problem with collecting money, is that once we charge admission, it becomes a business; and, we aren't here to run a business. First we'd need to purchase some sort of badge to identify who paid. We'd also need someone at the door at all times to be a watchdog. Next, someone would complain that he paid for a full two days, but only came in for a half a day. We'd have to hear lots of people who don't have a clue on how things are run, give their 2 cents on how their nominal admission fee should be spent. And, you'd inevitably get the guy with the big mouth, who wonders where all the money is going and who is getting rich.

So, I don't want to start putting a hand out at the door. That's not what the Non-Pedal Sessions are about...

Thanks for your kind words and support, Ben. Howard and I appreciate it, and so would Rick. We want to keep Rick's room and idea going, too! Cool

Goerge, those of us with products to offer could pay a vender fee for space to display our wears. That we have an area for non pedal products instead down on the main floor. An idea worth considering?

There are certain costs to run the show, administrative, and non. The hotel charges for everything...room, tables, chairs, etc. We also have to rent equipment...amps, PA system, cords, etc.

This year, I'd like to have four or five vendor tables. This would fray costs, and help to keep us all together. There are very few non-pedal vendors there. I think they'd have more traffic and appeal in the non-pedal room.

Howard and I have also talked about setting up a donation area in the room. This would have Rick's poster, a little bit about him, and his goals of spreading steel, via this event. This might be the best place for the donations, especially for those who will be attending. There's no need for any money at this time.

We definitely plan to have a show next year. There are aleady some reliable large base pledges that may have some basics covered. But, there's still a lot of planning to do.

Jeff and I......and I'll say Rick also....appreciate everybody's enthusiasm & generosity......I'm in the process of getting our website together for this purpose.....

http://ra-nonpedalsessions.com/

I've only just set up the home page.....and I will add photos to the site and videos that have not been posted of the 2010 session.....

We'll also have information for making donations with regard to paypal, credit cards, checks, money orders, jewelry, goats, oxen....whatever anybody wishes to donate.....

We'll have everything funneling through one source which will be the website to keep things simple....Jeff and I will also be discussing and brain storming things like sponsorships, raffles, adverstising....etc.....

We will have our account with the donations and if we aquire more than we need to fund it in 2011,.....the overage will go towards the 2012 sessions......and if we have less....you guys will be the first to know... Very Happy

Once we're set up to do all of this, we'll make the announcement here and move forward.....

I'll echo what Jeff stated with regard to an admission charge.....it basically changes everything....and not for the better.....it would then require overseeing and as said, it would then have to be run as a business.....and one business in my life outside of the Dallas show is enough for me.....

It's important that we keep this show going because it brings all of us, what we love, and what we do together to one focal point.....we have quite a variety of musical styles & genres....we are not limited to what we can do or button holed into a stereotype.....it doesn't matter if you play Hawaiian, blues, pop, swing, rock, Sacred Steel (THERE'S A THOUGHT), country, jazz......what matters is that it's played on the steel guitar....

I think that we, The Rick Alexander Non Pedal Sessions has a great following and I believe that we have the drive, the "manpower", and the momentum to keep this event going......

Now all we need are caps & T-shirts......bumper stickers, coffee mugs......

Any chance that a this could have a permanent spot at the top of the page titled TSGA nonpedal room once we figure out the donation process.

Thanks Howard!!

I would make two suggestions: while I agree that charging admission would be wrong, it does make sense to provide some sort of acknoldgement for those who donate to keep the room alive. Maybe a t-shirt that says something like "Steel this shirt" for those that contribute or they get the videos. or something.

The second suggestion would the invitation of non traditional players, (like the Slo Mo, the sacred steelers, Dan Tyack) to play.

That's a great idea......We do want this show to remain "The Rick Alexander Non Pedal Sessions"....in The Chagall Room at The TSGA Jamboree....

Perhaps we could get Brad liquored up and ask him to make it a sticky.....

Bill.....you are 100% right.....donators will be acknowledged.....happy to do that.....I've also thought about give away things.....but they also cost money,....we'll see what we can do, it's under consideration....

Yes,......a little more variation of genres.....we would be honored to have Dan Tyack, Chuck & Darick Campbell, Lonnie Bennett, and other Sacred Steelers play....Slo-Mo is A LOT of band to transport....

What we also would like to do, is to convince some pedal players to come up and play non pedal.....I'd love to get Randy Beavers into the room....he's wonderful on non pedal.....

Hey, what about getting this guy from NY....Bill McCloskey.....I hear he can play a little....maybe he'll even bring his trumpet... Wink

I have already made a pledge, but a donation box near the entrance might bring in a few bucks.
