What would cause a big static noise and pop when you turn on or off the amp? Otherwise the amp works fine.

| Filter caps, on/off switch dirty contacts, a bad capacitor somewhere in the amp, a bad transistor. A lot of things could be at fault, needs to be sent in for repair to Peavey or a good repair shop for sure |

Many older Peavey amps have a "pop". It's the way the power supply is designed, instant voltage on the "instant on" power amp section. The Nashville 400's also do this.
They redesigned the power supplies in the later Nashville 1000/112 and they don't do it.
"Static" could indicate a power supply problem. Considering the age of a Session 400 the filter caps, if they have never been replaced are probably the cause. |

| I had a Super Twin Reverb doing the same with on or off actions. The filters tested OK for ESR but still were the culprit! Replacing them cured the amp. |
