Hello; I had this posted in another thread & decided
to start a new post as i did not want to hijack any of Jay's thread.
I have tried a couple of Neo speakers & just did not care for the sound BUT the other day i received my
Weber NeoMag speakers( 2 that are 15" ) ..They weigh in at 9 1/2 lbs each!!.I mounted them each into a
11 lb cab. Total weight in the cab is 20 & 1/2 lbs per cab LOADED.
I ordered them to be clones of the JBL D series.
By that i mean cloth surround smooth cone with aluminum dome.
I thought the Weber California was sorta close to the older JBL's but these new NeoMag's are even closer!!..Ted was kind enough to break them in for me so just had to mount them in cabs, hook the wires up & start playing..These would probably NOT suit the guys that love the Peavey Black Widow speakers as they are brighter ( just like the older JBL's were )
You can't pump ungodly watts in them either BUT the good thing is with Weber speakers IF they do get blown ( i don't play that loud ) Ted will recone them for $25 each if they are Weber speakers -
considering that + the light weight & the JBL sound
I had to give them a try & i am sure glad i did..
Ron
For Tim Whitlock - my thoughts also! Ron

Hi, I recently got a Weber neo15 to go with my BF Twin. It has the cloth surround and the aluminum dome. I am tickled pink with the tone. I am playing a Shobud wiht it and the tone sounds so creamy and wonderful! I would recommend one.I have not used it at a gig yet, but I expect it will be great.

Hello James;
I have owned both the Weber California ( still
have a couple of those ) & also have 1 Weber Michigan.
The Michigan ( my opinion ONLY here ) sounds closer
to the EVM speakers & the California is supposed to sound closer to the JBL's.Let me say IF you like the older JBL's, out of all i have tried, the Weber NeoMag comes the closest ( to my ears anyway ) to the JBL sound if you order it this way:
cloth surround smooth cone with aluminum dome.
ALSO i should mention if you ask when you order any speaker from Weber, they will also break
the speaker in correctly so you can take it out of the box, install it & go to work right away.It will sound great that way.
IF you are after a different sound, get in touch with the folks at Weber & tell them you are interested in their NeoMag series & ask some questions. They WILL help & answer your questions.
Let us know what you end up going with..Thanks Ron

Thanks for the report Ron.

Anyone else try these? I've been thinking about trying one, maybe with a paper dome for Tele/steel.

Dave I did a mini review of Webber 12" ceramic Michigans here if it helps any. I think they would make killer tele speakers...

Dave,

I have a pair of Weber Neo 15s in a custom built 2-15 cab powered by a black face Fender Dual Showman. Mine are undoped and have aluminum dust covers.

I built the rig to be dual purpose, for steel and for surf guitar. It has exceeded my expectations in every way. The speakers have great balance with amazing highs for a 15 without the knife blade, axe pick edge. I am very happy with the Weber Neo 15s.

The weight savings is very welcome given the size of the speaker cab, a clone to a black face era 2-15 Fender cab.

I had a California Weber and didn't care for it too much. That was years ago. Maybe I didn't allow enough break in time. I would be using the Neo in a 70 watt Super Reverb in a Vibrosonic cab. I have a Michigan with a paper dome. It's ok but not ideal. Maybe I should have tried the silver dome..

Thanks for the feedback.

Here's what I thought about my Weber 15" "Michigan" (with chrome dome) ... and since then I only love it more!!!

http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=153303&highlight=

Here's a cut from my last CD, "live in the studio", using the my new weber with a PV NV 112 head (and Sarno's Black Box):

http://www.etsga.org/davewrens_stardust.mpeg.mp3

Not neos, but Ted Weber builds a great speaker..., and the 100 watt 4 ohm 15" ceramic "Michigan" speaker only weights 12 lbs.... comepare that to a BW!!

Hope this helps, dave.

Hey Ron, I may be wrong... but did we meet in the lobby of the hotel in Walnut Creek way back in 1995 for Tom Bradshaw's "West Coast Steel Show"....??? If so my wife Patty says "Hi", and if not... see you soon in Phoenix Smile

Dave Z. hope you're still unbeliveably booked my friend Smile I'm packing your old Session 500 to Fresno this week Smile... you'd like this new band I'm in!!!
