Now here is one of those songs that has become a classic AND Mike Johnson has created a "Classic" steel guitar lick that will live forever in our hands.

Bill: In your original posting of Mike, (Working Man Blues...) there was a clip posted by someone else of him backing Daryle Singletary on the same song.

Over the years I have been frequently accused of hearing things that weren't really what I thought they were. I felt the same way about this run you're playing here. The cut from his production site was much more refined but I had not heard it before and put in that category of something only I had heard.

Now I'm hearing, for the first time, that it is a classic such as Togeather Again and many others. I'm not sure what I missed but it wasn't his playing; because that was what I was thinking about the run when I first heard the clip in the other thread. But then I'm always doing that; aren't I ??

At least we're in agreement//if that isn't a classic; I don't know what one is !!

But I guess you are trying to tell me you like what I posted.

Bill: I'm as confused as you are...I can hardly believe I wrote that but yes; I do like his playing and your efforts to get it where we can hear it. Lord knows, you can't hear it on the radio...

I have been perhaps too enthusiastic about what I hear in steel guitar since the 60's. Actually to a fault. I got lampooned at Fretts for liking Jimmy Day's Liberty Drive from the Golden Hits album. And Jerry Byrd's work on Ferlin Husky's Next To Jimmy which in itself is now a classic.

I've also been tagged for liking some of Bobbe's work; that it was not what I thought it was ie: something really special. And so on and so forth...I grow weary of writing about it all the time.

Someone else, somewhere else on this Forum wrote that Paul, Tommy and Mike are where it's at nowadays.
I agree with that but I still enjoy hearing something different and fine the way it used to be when I was just beginning this long musical road home !!

Bill, Thanks for posting this. Mike is one of my favorites,
and I could listen to him all day. Next week I will finally
get to meet him. I'm glad I will be playing before he does,
because if he played before me, I couldn't even hold the bar.

Hey Everyone.

I was one of the very fortunate people to hear Mike play at the Texas Steel Guitar Jamboree.

Since first hearing Mike on Many Country CD's in early 2000, I have been a great fan.

I have seen/heard Mike many times and each time is like the first. "Amazing"

Mike & Joannie are such nice folks.

I'm hoping to see/hear them both in Nashville when I visit in June 2010.

Wow!! Now That's what it's all about. Tasty backing and a killer solo.....man oh man, you guys are so lucky to be able to go and see him play, and meet with him.
Bill, you have no idea how guys like myself really appreciate the videos you provide.....for us in other Countries it's most likely the closest we'll ever get to hearing and seeing these guys play. Thank you so much for your efforts.
