Dobro/Acoustic lap steel camp

Hi Folks.

I wonder if anyone has a recommendation for a good intermediate dobro or acoustic lap camp. I'm pretty much prepared to go anywhere in North America as long s the class sizes aren't too big.

Funny you should ask this today. This morning I got an email from a good friend letting me know about the First Annual Ghost Ranch Bluegrass Camp. Sally Van Meter will be teaching dobro.

The info I got says: 'This camp will be designed for the "novice plus" or intermediate student -- players who know bluegrass basics and would like to expand their abilities.'
I'm not a 'bluegrasser', but I am tempted to attend this camp.

Ghost Ranch is about a forty minute drive from where we live. My friend has been teaching pottery and ceramic arts there for quite a few years now. Since this is new, neither of us know anything more about it than is at the web site.

I hope this is of some interest.

Here is another one, and it's about a four hour drive for Brad and myself in Northern California. It takes place at the Father's Day Bluegrass Festival in June in the Gold Country of the foothills of the Sierra in Grass Valley. One of the really great bluegrass festivals in a very nice setting. My parents lived nearby for many years after retiring and selling their home in the Bay Area.

Our good buddy from Alaska, Greg Booth will be teaching the lower level classes, and Andy Hall of The Infamous Stringdusters will be teaching the more advanced stuff.

Both are wonderful players with very different styles.

The Swannanoa Gathering is a summer program, just east of Asheville, NC., and has classes on a mix of various acoustic guitar styles during July 25-31.

It has a couple of Dobro classes a day, taught by Sally Van Meter. Other classes include slide guitar, fingerstyle blues, celtic, slack key, and various other styles, all on acoustic guitars, with a few banjo and mandolin thrown in.
