The last verse played in C6th uses the E to F change on the 6th string to get a root tone and a nice 9th sound. The song is played in Bb but I also added a rhythm track in G for those that might want it.
Greg : A beautiful rendition of this patriotic song; you do a grand job on that C6th neck so nicely; love all your chord work on the very end of the song. Thanks for sharing your talent as a steel guitarist with us..Send more..Bernie
That arrangement was well thought out and impressively executed. You have a good knowledge of how to utilize the amazing capabilities of the pedal steel guitar and also achieve a pleasant tone. My sincere congratulations.
Bernie and Thiel, thanks for the nice comments! The E to F raise and the D string on top of the C6th tuning really make it easier to play melodies and do add some nice chords.
Greg: In no way am I taking issue with your comment on the changes you referred to on your C6th arrangement. I also use the E to F change on a knee lever but I tune my top string to G rather than D. I have tried it both ways and find that, for me,I get too much use out of the G string. I lower the E string to D which helps make up for not having the D string out there. On my T-9 non-pedal guitar I tune the C6th with the D on top, but my D10 Pedal steel has G up there. Just my preference.
With the C to C# change on the 3rd string, you get your high G string back along with a ton of other changes. The D string on top allows for a lot of meodic and chordal variations and is a great supplement to the A to Bb and D to D# changes. I used the G on top for many years but now I have the best of both worlds.
