Dan Dugmore with Linda Ronstadt

Post by Bill Miller »

It lists Dan Dugmore as the guitar player but it has to be him on pedal steel. Nice flashback to Linda's heyday.

Bill, thanks for posting that one. I never knew what Dan Dugmore looked like and am unable to confirm or deny that it is him playing here. All I know is it sure don't sound as smooth on this one , nor on Blue Bayou if you care to look it up, as it does on the recording of Blue Bayou. But I realize that it is a big difference between live and studio.

Linda has always been one of my idols. Her beautifully clear voice on Blue Bayou and Silver Threads is simply amazing. Was it Weldon Myrick who played on the Silver threads recording?
Great music from a great era...

Here's a bit on Linda http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linda_Ronstadt

Hi Bent. Linda was some singer and quite a looker too. I don't know who played steel on the Silver Threads recording but I believe it was Dan Dugmore who did the steel on Blue Bayou. There's a recent picture of Dan ( along with Steve Hinson) on the Show Pro website. Obviously he's aged but he looks like the guy in the old video I posted.

Linda just stands there and belts the somgs out with Pure unadulterated talent. No gyrations or running all over the stage but still so sexy. Those were such great days in the Music World. Dan does just a super job. Is Dan still around ?

Bent : thank for your ' Info " on Linda's Life story. I agree with you on her being such a grand singer and looker. But I am almost certain that is not Weldon Myrick backing her on Silver Threads. Bernie :D :whoa: :whoa:

Bernie, that was actually Bill who said she's a looker. But hey I agree 100% :-)
Yeah, that steel on Silver threads is beautiful, the way he gets way up in the high register..clear as a bell!

I think that Dan Dugmore is still quite active in the Nashville studio scene. What a great player. He has sort of an economical, more is less style but very tasteful and well excecuted.

There are two records in my collection, that are not very old on which he plays,
John Prine- In spite of ourselves
Pam Tillis- It's all relative. There must be some more.

There was a lick-sharing feature in the old PSGA Newsletters. One had the steel break to Blue Bayou worked out. I learned it then but have since forgotten.
I have a stack of the old Newsletters but the one with BB is gone. Anybody have it?

I don't have what you're looking for Bent but this may be of some use. The sound is awful on this clip but you can get a pretty good idea of where Dan is getting around to on the neck at least.

As an aside, on the Show Pro CD Dan Dugmore does Blue Bayou on his Show Pro guitar (it's not an instrumental however) and the sound is just amazing. I've always loved the steel in that song but it sounded a bit thin compared to this version. The downside is that Linda Ronstadt isn't the vocalist. Very nice job by Aly Cutter though. Well worth giving a listen to.
