A suprise for me on youtube

Post by Micky Byrne »

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S42lH_ZVhS8&feature=sub Hope this works. Had this posted to me today on Facebook. I was playing at a big festival in 2005 in Dorset U.K. and we were backing John Permenter from Texas with his fiddle. There was no rehearsal whatsoever and if you listen you will hear me say "Give me a clue" :? Several thousand in the audience and we were at the mercy of the soundman...guess he forgot when the Bass player took a turn at the vocals, and never turned his mic up  This was my old Sho-Bud with it's weird universal. 7 Knees and 4 pedals, kinda back to front, but it's all there. This was the 'Bud that burned in a house fire a few months later. It's been rebuilt, but just too heavy for me now....I'll be 63 on the 29th December ;-)

Happy new year to all forumites.

Thanks for sharing this with us, Micky ... I enjoyed watching it very much.

I know also how it is feeling equipment get heavier as the years go by. :)

By the way, an early Happy Birthday to you. I'll be turning 55 real soon, too, on the 28th of December. :)

Thanks Jim and happy birthday to you too...Another Capricorn :) Re the soundmen,at that time I was using a Nashville 112, they never mic'd it as I would have prefered. They took a line into the desk. Next act on was Sarah Jorey. She used my amp but positioned it other end of the stage as that's how her band set up. The darn sound crew forgot to D.I. her into the desk, for 2 numbers she couldn't be heard because as I said it was a huge venue. I had to run backstage to tell them to get her in the desk. Where do some companys get their crew from? Other times i've had great sound men, and insist on my SM-57 to mic up. I hasten to add I'm back to 15" speakers. I much prefer them :) Enjoy your birthday :)

Good job on that classic country song Micky!

By the way, your experience with the 112 was like mine, I took it on a job exactly twice before shucking it. Reading everyone's praises on the Forum, I decided to buy one, mainly for the weight of the amp. I then took it with me for the first time and it sounded "tinny". I then added a DD3 and took it on another job but it still didn't have any bottom. I brought it home and never used it again, and went back to my Walker rig with two 15's.

Also, when I first bought my Sho~Bud I changed all the pulls to an unconventional hookup that I had on my Fender 1000. It worked great for western-swing, but didn't cut the mustard for country. After about a year I changed everything back to a standard E9 where it is today.

.....and, a very happy birthday to you. I'm just a hop and a skip from 80, and I'm feeling my mortality since I've passed my average life expectancy of 76.

I'm not consumed with guilt about my life choices, but, there are some things that I would have done differently. My best wishes to you for the new year!

Thanks Gene, can't beat a 15" IMHO and many others. Only way to get the depth, so I'm sticking with my Evans Fet 500 and my Nashville 400 both converted to head/cab configurations. Another trip to the car, but much better for my back :) Thanks for your birthday wishes mate...as for life expectancy, as you know I'm nearly 11 years past what I should have been if it wasn't for a donor. There's lots of things, looking back on my life, that I would have done differently too. Happy new year, and keep picking. Nothing has stopped me despite the probs i've encountered, it's just having a positive attitude to keep on keeping on :)

Micky and Gene ... I, too, am a 15" speaker die hard. I've seen a lot of my friends using 112s now and they are very happy with them, but when I try to play through one (regardless of how I adjust tone settings), I just can't seem to get out of them what I can pull from a 15" speaker.

If I ever start playing gigs again, I'll probably have to hire a roadie to go with me ... I have a strict weight limitation of lifting no more than 30 pounds and my steel, effects rack, and amps each weigh much more than that.

hey Micky - from another died in the wool 15 incher, that was great playing mate ... you nailed the style I like very well!

Your right - a good soundman is to be cherished - they are about as scarce as rocking-horse doo doo's in this neck of the woods.

Have a great New Years mate, and hope the weather picks up for you guys ! -- it's a hot one down-under !

Thanks Paddy....if I win the national Lottery here, I'll be over to visit you, then I can also visit all my cousins in your North Island there. Send your sun up this way. We had horrendous snow last week here in Essex, and that's really unusual for this neck of the woods. We're S.E. England and hardly see the stuff. Have a Happy and above all "HEALTHY" 2010 mate.

Hi Dan, unfortunately not as that was sent to me on Facebook and unexpected as it was done nearly 5 years ago, but if you go to my website, on the home page you can hear an instrumental of mine and also another on the "Friends & aquaintances" page.

Happy new year.

Hi Andy, I'm not a 6th player, but I get enough sounds to accomadate that when I want to. I just use my universals as one big tuning. Funny enough I dug out my Sho-Bud today from under the stairs, and set it up. Was like a long lost friend. Re the Carter...actually they both sound good...to me anyway :)
